Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Headteacher’s Blog – 27th April 2018

My favourite Shakespeare play is Macbeth; as an English teacher for over 30 years I enjoy teaching the play through performance.  Once students can read the words aloud and think about where the character would stand, how they would move, they really enjoy it.

Yesterday the English team here at Erdington were thrilled to be able to screen a live version of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Macbeth to our Year 11 students.  Students in schools from all over the country were able to enjoy the production.  I was fortunate to be able to teach half of the year group for a session after the performance and there is no doubt their insight into the play was improved.  It might be Shakespeare’s shortest play but if you have the chance to see it performed it really is something special.

All this in the week that we celebrated Shakespeare’s birth and death, now that is special!
