It was a pleasure to welcome staff back to the academy last Monday, particularly the new staff that are joining us. As Mark Rhatigan has moved into his new role I am delighted to lead the academy as Head for this year. My presentation to the staff, I think they could tell I had a background in technology and engineering as the theme was about team work and consistency and I used the image of cogs working together to keep a machine (a school) in good working order.
What is exciting about our plans for the year is that we have a renewed focus on character and culture. Posing the question: What kind of person and citizen we want our young people to become? Mrs Stoneman, our new Deputy Headteacher, has a wealth of experience in leading curriculum change and she shares some of her ideas.
These themes of character, culture, skills and competencies then echoed through the headteacher assemblies I presented, where the real focus was about the development of the individual and making the most of the fantastic opportunities student have to participate at Erdington Academy.
