Like many things a school in more than the sum of its parts. All schools have a timetable with lessons and teachers working hard to unlock potential, raise aspirations, instilling belief and delivering what is needed to ensure exam success. But what makes any school unique is more than these elements and what follows gives a taster of what live is like in a vibrant and busy school:
Erdington Academy has excellent links with many local primary schools, and recently we are developing very fruitful relationship with St Barnabas. Two of our members of staff taught lessons to children at St Barnabas last week to give them a taste of the wonderful standard of teaching they can expect if they come to our school.
The school house system encourages each house to support a charity each year our students held a McMillan coffee morning raising over £500 in one lunchtime for an excellent and valuable cause.
Students and staff launched Black History Month this week we have a range of events and activities throughout the month, one event running through the month will be cinema evenings our first this week had over 90 students in attendance.
As a member of the Midlands Knowledge Schools Hub, Erdington Academy has access to a wealth of curriculum experts and schools within the Midlands, all working to develop curricula that are knowledge-rich to best benefit our pupils. On Monday 15th October, Erdington Academy are delighted to host the new academic year’s first networking event of the Midlands Knowledge Schools Hub and will commence with a keynote by Daisy Christodoulou, author of the seminal Seven Myths About Education and Making Good Progress? In March we are preparing to host a national Research-Ed event to around 400 educationalists, like the regional event it will have key national expert speakers. At both events staff will be looking at research and best practice to ensure our students have the very best educational opportunities to support them in realising their potential.
Erdington Academy is a school like any other school, but it has so many elements that make it individual and special to its students and staff.
