Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Parental Letter – 2nd March 2023

02 March 2023

Dear Parent’s / Carers

I am writing to make you aware of our main additional learning opportunities this term and the preparation of different year groups for their internal and external exams. The main driver of achievement for every student is the quality first teaching they receive in their lessons. Therefore, it is imperative that students are in school and ready for learning as this will make the main difference in terms of the progress they make at the end of their time in the Academy.

Several year 7 and 9 students are working with the Brilliant Club where they work with a PhD tutor who shares their subject knowledge and passion for learning with small groups. It helps students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to secure a place at a competitive university. Students are guided to complete a challenging final assignment which is marked and moderated using University grades. This will be offered to year 8 students in the future.

Year 10 students have the opportunity to receive small group tuition after school on Thursdays delivered by CoachBright. CoachBright is an organisation that works with students in small groups to help them become independent, resilient learners. They match each pupil with a university tutor and work with them to improve their grades, confidence, and independence in English, Maths and Science. This is an exciting opportunity, and it is open to 30 students. This is now available for students to sign up on a first come first served basis, so please sign up as soon as possible. Year 10 students will sit mock GCSE exams in June, and in preparation for this they need to continue completing their homework activities, using revision resources offered by the school and ensure that lesson time is used effectively.

Year 11 students continue to complete form time interventions and students are also being invited to after school interventions in several subjects. During the half term break several students were invited to attend masterclasses on Maths, English, and Science, delivered by subject specialists across the Trust. Students also worked with teachers in school completing work in Physics, Chemistry, Art and Drama. Please continue to support us by ensuring that when students are invited to these important activities they attend. Year 11 students are completing their mock exams currently and every lesson leading up to their final GCSE exams is important so please encourage them to take advantage of every opportunity that is being offered in and out of school over the weeks leading up to their exams.

We endeavour to support our students to achieve their full potential and value the support you give. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Muschette

Assistant Principal
