Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Parental Letter – 7th July 2024

Dear parent/carer,

RE: Summer Fayre announcement and some reminders for this half term

Hopefully you will have seen from our social media accounts on Facebook/Instagram, that we are now advertising for our Summer Fayre, which will be both an indoor and outdoor event on Saturday 29th June 12pm-3pm. There are an enormous variety of food stalls for a bite to eat outside – hopefully in the sunshine (!), hot and cold drinks, as well as opportunities to browse and purchase from the multitude of stalls: purchase gifts, personalised items, cards, soap sponges and candles. There will be a virtual golf hut, and a giant tombola too. Entry is free and there is lots of on-site parking.

The Fayre is organised by the PTFA and will raise funds for school trips and events. PTFA funds this year have contributed a great deal to the cost of the Y11 Prom and have supplied the decorations, the photobooth, red carpet and balloons, which will all contribute to making the event memorable and special. We really appreciate the work they do to support the students throughout the year. If you are interested in joining the PTFA and working with the committed team we have, then please do get in touch with reception and let them know.

In my last letter, I wrote to you about expectations for the summer term. If you haven’t already, please make sure that your son/daughter has a reuseable (rather than a recyclable) water bottle. These are available to purchase in most supermarkets and an added bonus is that they can be washed and refilled at home daily, without contributing to environmental disposal issues/littering and once the bottle is purchased, refilling it is at no additional cost.

Uniform has been a real focus for us this week too. In the interests of environmental concerns, if you have any ‘too good to go’ pre-loved uniform that might benefit another family – (blazers, ties, trousers/skirts/shirts), please bring freshly laundered items to school reception and we will arrange for them to be passed on, to other families who will appreciate them and have their children get some wear out of them. Children grow so quickly and sometimes clothes have plenty of life left in them, but just no longer fit!

This half term sees the last few weeks of our Y11s learning with us. There is no formal study leave any more. Y11 students are expected to be on site, on time and learning in lessons. Next week sees our Leavers Assembly on Tuesday afternoon, following the last whole cohort exam. I know they will be looking forward to the opportunity to reflect on their 5 years here, laugh at some old photographs and share some memories together over a lunch with staff. After Tuesday, students in Y11 are still expected to attend. There are a few significant exams remaining. Teachers of subjects on their timetables for which there are no more exams, have been provided with vital work to do to support student revision and help them to consolidate their learning.  On occasion following an exam, students may be released early, but this will always be a response to exemplary behaviour in the exams themselves – like we did earlier yesterday (and we will always let you know).

Finally, please remember that attendance and punctuality is just as important in the summer as it is at any other time of the year. Now the season of coughs and colds is thankfully behind us, we should be looking forward to improvements in attendance for everyone! The DfE target for every child is 96% (minimum), but with 30 school days remaining, this is equal to 15% of the school year and can have a significant impact on your child’s final attendance figures for the year. Please work with us in encouraging your child to be in school every day and on time every day to benefit from the teaching and learning and out of hours curriculum offer at Erdington Academy, they need to be here!

Thank you, as always for your ongoing support. Working hand in hand for every student’s success is crucial for us all. We look forward to seeing you at the Fayre.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Wright.
