Strike Action Wednesday 1st February 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

You may be aware from media coverage that the teaching union – National Education Union (NEU) have declared strike action, which will take place on a number of dates, the first being on Wednesday 1st February 2023.  The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the union and the government over teacher’s pay, and not because of any issues at our Academy. I am getting in touch to give you as much notice as possible about our arrangements. Erdington Academy plans to operate a partial closure, in which some year groups will be working remotely from home. Please see the overview below:

7* Students will be provided with work via Teams. Home
8* Students will be provided with work via Teams. Home
9* Students will be provided with work via Teams. Home
10* Students will be provided with work via Teams. Home
11 Students will be on site where possible completing GCSE booster sessions or working remotely on revision activities for the February Mock exams Erdington academy or home
Y7-10 Vulnerable students Students will be provided with work via Teams but allocated a space to work in the academy. Erdington academy

*Please note, that teaching members of staff who are striking are not compelled to set work for students therefore, some remote work will be generic, however we plan to ensure the majority is closely linked to the curriculum and some of the work may also be set by the class teacher. If there is no specific set work for a period, they need to complete the Independent Learning Work linking it to the subject scheduled on their timetable.Year 11 studentsStudents expected on site will be notified Monday of the sessions they will be invited to attend.  If on site normal expectations will be in place, students will be in full uniform and break and lunch arrangements will be as normal.Vulnerable StudentsDefinition – Families who are involved with social services and may have a social worker. Students who have an Education and Healthcare Plan (EHCP).If you feel that your child is in the vulnerable student category and is in Year 7-10 or you would like to discuss whether your child is in this category, please contact Mrs Guarini (c.guarini@erdington.fmat.co.uk) so that we can ensure we have sufficient provision.CateringSchool lunches will run as normal at both break and lunchtime.Free School mealsIf your child is working remotely and is eligible for free school meals, you are able to order a packed lunch for Wednesday.
