Year 6 to Year 7 Transition at Erdington Academy 

Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and at Erdington Academy we work closely with families and our partner primary schools to ensure every child feels confident, supported, and ready for the journey ahead.  

Our transition programme is designed to help Year 6 pupils settle quickly by introducing them to the academy’s routines, values, staff, and learning environment before September. 

Birmingham City Council Admissions Guidance 

For Year 6 to Year 7 entry (September admissions), parents and carers must submit an application through Birmingham City Council’s online portal.

 What Families Can Expect from Erdington Academy 

• Welcome Events – Meet key staff, explore the academy, and learn what life here is like. 

• Transition Day(s) – Year 6 pupils visit the academy for lessons and team-building activities. 

• Primary School Visits – We visit pupils in their primary schools to begin building relationships. 

• Additional Support – Extra transition options for pupils who may benefit from additional support. 

• Parent/Carer Information – Guidance on uniform, expectations, communication, and getting ready for September.
