Dear parent/ carer
Your child’s personal development at Erdington Academy is important to us, and I hope it is to you too.
We have an “enrichment programme” that takes your child through a five year journey, from year 7 to year 11.
This enrichment programme helps the students to develop their character through the following themes:
Year 7 Transition from primary school and problem solving in the outdoors
Year 8 A visit to the Black Country Living Museum, to support Humanities studies, and problem solving through an introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme
Year 9 Careers educations, information and guidance, transition from secondary to post 16 education, including visits to colleges/universities
Year 10 Field trips, Visiting an Art gallery/ museum and a cultural visit to support GCSE Science
Year 11 Watching a Shakespearian performance, a cultural visit
Many schools no longer offer school visits of this nature, because the costs have become prohibitive. We now need to consider whether the benefits that we see in our students’ personal development is proportionate to the cost incurred, which is significant.
Our school budget is well managed and we do plan for these activities in advance. However, recent changes in education funding are forcing us to reconsider the cost of these enrichment activities.
If you would like to make a voluntary contribution of £10 to allow us to continue to facilitate these opportunities, please make a donation via ParentPay https://app.parentpay.com/
Yours faithfully
Mr S Mallett
Principal
