Parental Letter 14.7.2026

14 July 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of another academic year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and partnership with Erdington Academy. It is a privilege and a pleasure to write to you as Head of Academy and reflect on what has been another successful and memorable year for our students and community.

Looking back over 2025–26, I am immensely proud of all that our students have achieved. Throughout the year, they have embraced opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, truly bringing to life our mission of Enriching Lives; Transforming Futures. From completing Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and gaining valuable work experience at The Belfry, to exploring future careers through STEM events, celebrating our diverse community through the Culture Festival and taking part in projects that have made a positive difference locally, our students have demonstrated ambition, resilience and a commitment to excellence.

Alongside these experiences, students have worked hard in their lessons, continued to develop their reading and literacy skills and represented the Academy with maturity, kindness and respect. What has impressed me most is the character our young people show every day. Whether supporting one another, welcoming visitors or representing the Academy in the wider community, they have been excellent ambassadors for Erdington Academy.

I would also like to thank you, our parents and carers. The progress our students make is only possible through the strong partnership between home and school. Your support with attendance, punctuality, learning and high expectations plays a vital role in helping our young people succeed.

Looking Ahead

Whilst we celebrate this year’s successes, we are already looking forward to an exciting 2026–27 academic year. Over the summer, we will continue to invest in our Academy site, facilities and educational provision to ensure students benefit from the very best learning environment and opportunities. We will also continue to strengthen our reading strategy, enrich our extra-curricular offer and expand leadership opportunities for students as we strive to provide an exceptional experience for every child.

As we look ahead to September, we will also say goodbye to a number of valued colleagues. We thank them sincerely for their contribution to Erdington Academy and wish them every success for the future. At the same time, we are delighted to welcome new staff who will bring fresh ideas, expertise and enthusiasm to our Academy community. We look forward to them becoming part of the Erdington Academy family and supporting our students to achieve their very best.

Finishing the Year Strong

As we enter the final days of term, I would like to remind students and families of the importance of maintaining excellent attendance and positive habits right until the end of the academic year. Every day matters. The final weeks of term provide valuable opportunities for students to celebrate their achievements, take part in enrichment activities and prepare for the year ahead.

Our expectations regarding attendance, punctuality, behaviour and commitment to learning remain in place until the final day. By finishing strongly, students demonstrate the dedication, ambition and integrity that lies at the heart of The Erdington Way and set themselves up for a successful start in September.

Keeping Safe and Supported Over the Summer

As we approach the summer holidays, I would like to share a few important reminders to help keep our students safe and supported.

With warmer weather expected, please take time to discuss water safety with your child. Canals, rivers, lakes and reservoirs can be extremely dangerous, even on hot days, and children should never enter open water unsupervised. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.

We would also encourage families to explore the Bring It On Brum! programme, which offers a range of free holiday activities for children and young people across Birmingham, with meals available for those eligible for benefit-related Free School Meals.

Further information can be found at:

https://bringitonbrum.co.uk/about-us/

As children are likely to spend more time online during the holidays, please continue to have regular conversations about online safety, social media and the responsible use of technology. If you feel your family may require support over the summer, please contact the Academy before the end of term and we will be happy to help or signpost appropriate services.

As another successful academic year comes to a close, I would like to thank all of our students, staff, families and wider community for their contribution to Erdington Academy. Together, we have much to celebrate and even more to look forward to.

I wish you and your family a safe, restful and enjoyable summer break. We are excited to make a strong start to the new academic year and look forward to welcoming all students back to the Academy on Thursday 3rd September at their specified start time, ready for another year of learning, achievement and opportunity. We look forward to working together to ensure that 2026–27 is another successful year of Enriching Lives; Transforming Futures.

Yours faithfully,

Ms Cross
Head of Academy
