Parental Letter – 15.6.2026

15th June 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we move into the final half term of the academic year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on some recent highlights and recognise the continued effort and commitment shown by our students.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students, who are nearing the end of their GCSE examinations and will complete them this week. They have approached this important period with dedication and resilience, and I am sure they are all looking forward to a well-deserved rest!

It was also wonderful to welcome so many families into school over the past few weeks. Thank you to the Year 10 parents who attended our recent Revision Evening, where we shared information about the GCSE assessment process and provided resources to help students revise effectively at home. We were equally pleased to see so many Year 7 families at Parents’ Evening. Opportunities such as these are invaluable in strengthening the partnership between school and home, allowing families to meet staff, discuss progress, ask questions and celebrate successes together.

Many of us can still remember a teacher or member of staff from our own school days who inspired us, encouraged us, or simply took the time to understand us as individuals. Those relationships often stay with us long after we leave school, highlighting the important role that trusted adults play in helping young people to grow in confidence and achieve their potential. It is these individuals we think of on Wednesday 17th June for National Thank a Teacher Day. This provides an opportunity to celebrate the dedication, care and commitment of all staff across our school and to reflect on the positive impact they have on the lives of young people every day.

At Erdington Academy, strong relationships between staff and students are at the heart of everything we do. These relationships are fundamental not only to academic success, but also to students’ wellbeing, personal development and sense of belonging. When students feel known, valued and supported, they are more engaged in their learning, more confident in themselves and better equipped to overcome challenges.

Our commitment to developing character alongside academic achievement is central to our approach. Values such as integrity, respect and excellence underpin all that we do, and these are nurtured through the positive daily interactions students have with staff across the school.

We are deliberate in how we foster positive relationships across our school community, recognising the important role they play in both students’ academic success and personal development. Staff take the time to get to know students as individuals, celebrating their successes and supporting them through difficulties when they arise. This happens not only in lessons, but also through form time, pastoral support and the wider opportunities we provide, including our Out of Hours Learning programme. By creating a culture built on mutual respect, trust and high expectations, we ensure that students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

This commitment is evident in the work of all staff across the school. Form tutors provide a consistent and trusted point of contact each day, building strong relationships with students and often being the first to recognise when additional support may be needed. Our Heads of Year work closely with families and staff to oversee students’ wellbeing and progress, ensuring that every young person is known and supported. Alongside this, curriculum staff develop positive relationships through high-quality teaching and regular interaction in lessons, helping students not only to achieve academically, but also to develop the confidence, resilience and curiosity that will support them throughout their lives.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. By working together and maintaining strong relationships between home and school, we can provide the best possible opportunities for our young people. We look forward to a positive and purposeful final half term.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Hillier
Assistant Principal SENCO
