Year 11 End of Term Letter – 19.12.2024

Dear Parents/Carers

As we approach the end of another successful term, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and to share some key updates and reminders. Year 11 has been incredibly busy, and I am so proud of the effort and resilience shown by our students as they prepare for their final examinations.

Please take a moment to read through the important information below to help ensure that we start the new term in January with clarity and purpose.

Reflections on the Term

This term has seen Year 11 students engage in a range of activities aimed at preparing them for their GCSEs and life beyond school. Key highlights include:

  • Mock Examinations: Our students demonstrated excellent focus and maturity during their mock exams. The feedback provided by teachers will be invaluable as they refine their revision strategies.
  • Careers and Post-16 Options: Many students have now completed applications for college, apprenticeships, or sixth form. If your child still needs support with this process, please encourage them to speak with their tutor or our careers adviser.
  • Extra-Curricular Involvement: I am particularly impressed by the number of students who balanced their academic responsibilities with participation in sports teams, music performances, and other enrichment activities.

Key Dates for the Spring Term

Please ensure that you are aware of the following dates for next term:

  • First Day of Term: Tuesday 7th January 2025
  • Half Term Break: Monday 17th February – Friday 21st February 2025
  • Second Mock Exams: Wednesday 26th February – Wednesday 12th March 2025
  • Last Day of Term: Friday 11th April 2025

Supporting Your Child’s Progress

As we move into the critical final months of Year 11, I encourage you to support your child by:

  • Establishing a Revision Routine: Students should now be revising regularly, using tools like their mock exam feedback, revision guides, and online resources such as GCSEPod or Bitesize.
  • Encouraging Attendance: Every lesson counts, so please ensure your child attends school punctually every day.
  • Communicating with Teachers: If you have concerns about your child’s progress or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact their subject teacher, form tutor, or myself.

Whilst it is important the students continue their studies over the two-week break, please encourage your child to balance their studies with rest and relaxation, so they return refreshed and ready for the challenges ahead.

Before they return in January, please ensure they are in full uniform (see website if you need a reminder (https://erdingtonacademy.bham.sch.uk/the-academy/school-uniform/). As we approach the final stretch of Year 11, I would like to avoid having to sanction students for failing to meet expectations.

Finally, I want to thank you for your unwavering support this term. It is a privilege to work with such a dedicated and hardworking group of young people, and your involvement plays a vital role in their success.

I wish you and your family a restful holiday period and a Happy New Year.

Warm regards,

Miss S Logan

Head of Year 11
