Dear Parent/Carer
I hope this letter finds you well. We would like to remind you of some important information if your child is in year 11 and inform you about the upcoming Assessment Weeks at Erdington Academy for students in years 7-10.
GCSE Exams
Year 11 students are currently completing their GCSE exams. The importance of these exams cannot be overstated as they play a pivotal role in shaping the students’ educational journey, influencing their future opportunities, and preparing them for the challenges of higher education and the future workforce. It is essential that your child attend school every day and they are punctual to every exam. Teachers are ensuring that Year 11 students are prepared for their upcoming exams while they are in school through normal timetabled lessons and masterclasses after school, the schedule of the masterclasses has been shared with you. Students must attend school in full school uniform and follow the Behaviour policy of the school. Failure to adhere to the rules will see some privileges planned for Year 11 students after the exams being withdrawn from individual students.
Year 10 Mock Exams
For our Year 10 students, the mock exams play a vital role in preparing for the challenges ahead and give us important information to support them further. They serve as an invaluable opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with the exam format, assess their strengths and weaknesses and refine their study strategies accordingly. These assessments will enable teachers to plan effectively for the final year by identifying any gaps in learning and any additional support that will be needed. Mock exams are scheduled to take place from June 18th to June 27th. Year 10 students should be studying for these exams and using all the revision materials available to them. Students also have a wealth of resources available through GCSE pod GCSEPod and revision materials provided by the school. Attendance during this period is essential as the data from these assessments will be used to inform decisions regarding tiers of entries and groups in Year 11. If students miss any mock exam papers, they will be required to complete the exam after school. We ask for your support with this.
Assessment Week Years 7-9
Years 7-9 assessment week will take place June 18th to June 20th and students will be assessed on the material they have been learning throughout the school year. These assessments are designed to gauge their acquisition of knowledge and skills set out in the curriculum. Students will also complete standardised progress tests in Maths, English and Science during this time. These tests are designed to measure their performance relative to all other students taking the same tests. A detailed assessment schedule, including specific subjects and times, will be provided to students prior to the assessment period and this will be shared with you on the school website. We encourage you to help your child prepare by reviewing their study materials and maintaining a regular study routine, please refer to the home learning collaboration documents available on our website Curriculum – Erdington Academy.
Excellent attendance is crucial during this period. If your child is unwell or facing any other exceptional circumstances, please notify the school as soon as possible so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Assessment results will be communicated to you when reports are completed and year 10s will have their mock results shared with them in school.
We encourage you to provide your child with a supportive and nurturing environment during this period.
As an Academy, we endeavour to support our students to achieve their full potential and value the support you give. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Yours sincerely
S Boreland-Muschette
