Dear Parents and Carers
As we begin a new academic year at Erdington Academy, I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to all our families. It has been a genuine pleasure to see our students return to school looking smart, confident, and ready to learn. Their enthusiasm and positivity have set a wonderful tone for the term ahead, and I want to thank you for the vital role you play in preparing them for success.
In August, we proudly celebrated the GCSE successes of our Year 11 students — a true reflection of their hard work, resilience, and positive attitude. What stood out most about this cohort was not only their dedication to academic achievement, but also their unwavering support for one another and their commitment to the wider school community. They embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and made a lasting contribution to the culture and spirit of Erdington Academy. I encourage every student to follow their example.
Cohort 2025 – Student Success Highlights
We are proud to share the achievements of our Year 11 students, whose results reflect continued improvement across the Academy:
· Attainment 8 reached its highest level since 2022, showing strong overall progress.
· English and Maths outcomes improved, reflecting the impact of focused support and high-quality teaching.
· Ebacc performance strengthened, with students achieving greater success in core academic subjects.
· Science delivered excellent results, particularly in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
· Subjects such as Photography, Religious Education, Child Development, Health & Fitness, Engineering, and Food achieved strong outcomes.
· Curriculum innovations, including a successful Citizenship pilot and continued excellence in Home Languages, enriched student experience and broadened achievement.
These outcomes are a testament to the dedication of our students and staff, and we are excited to build on this success in the year ahead.
Our Focus for 2025–26: Motivation
This year, our development priorities are framed around motivation, a key driver of student success. Motivated learners are more engaged, resilient, and confident.
They take ownership of their learning, persevere through challenges, and strive to reach their full potential.
How Parents and Carers Can Help Spark Motivation
· Celebrate effort, not just results. Praise persistence and progress – it builds confidence and a growth mindset.
· Encourage curiosity. Ask questions about what your child is learning and show interest in their schoolwork.
· Set routines. A consistent schedule for homework, reading, and rest helps students stay organised and motivated.
· Model positivity. Share stories of perseverance and remind them that setbacks are part of learning.
Together, we can inspire every student to believe in themselves, take pride in their learning, and make the most of every opportunity.
To support learning at home, we’ve recently uploaded our Home Learning Collaboration documents to the Academy website. These resources outline what your child will be learning in lessons and offer suggested activities you can do together to reinforce their understanding. You can access them here: Curriculum – Erdington Academy
In addition, Ms Folkes will be writing to you shortly with details about our expanded Out of Hours Learning Curriculum, which now includes opportunities for additional accreditations.
Finally, please look out for a letter from Mrs Wright this week, sharing exciting opportunities to get involved with our Parents and Friends Association (PFA) — a great way to support the Academy and connect with other families.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a successful and inspiring year ahead.
Warm regards,
Elizabeth Cross
