Head of Year 8 Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

My name is Miss Logan, and I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Head of Year 8. I will be working closely with Mr O Gibbons, our Assistant Head of Year, to ensure your child has another positive and successful year. Year 8 is a wonderful year group, and we are excited to work with them.

I want to be clear from the start that I have high expectations for behaviour, uniform, and conduct. These expectations exist because I want every child in Year 8 to do well, feel proud of themselves, and make strong progress.

To help the year group start strongly, I would like to highlight key uniform expectations:

• Skirts must be tailored and of appropriate length. Elastane, Lycra or jersey stretch skirts (tube-style) are not permitted.

• Trousers must be tailored and suitable for a school environment. They should have a straight or gently tapered leg, be made from trouser-weight woven fabric, have a fixed waistband worn at the waist, and fit neatly without being overly tight or loose. Trousers should not be made from thin or stretchy fabrics, resemble leggings or jeggings, flared or wide-leg fashion styles, or skin-tight. Even if marketed as “school trousers”, fashion-style flares or legging-style trousers are not appropriate.

• Hair must be a natural hair colour and false lashes and nails are not permitted.

• Shoes should be plain black and polishable. Shoes that fall outside this standard, including pumps, trainers, suede, high‑tops or canvas styles, are not permitted. Shoes must also be free from any logos.

We appreciate your support in ensuring your child arrives each day ready to learn and dressed in correct uniform.

Mobile Phones

As you may be aware, the Department for Education has recently strengthened national guidance on mobile phones in schools. All schools are expected to ensure phones are not used, seen or heard during the school day. Our existing policy already aligns with this guidance, and we will continue to enforce it consistently. Keeping phones switched off and in bags helps reduce distraction, supports safeguarding, and ensures students remain focused on learning. If a phone is seen or heard, it will be confiscated and must be collected by a parent or carer.

• 2^nd October: Training Day

• 23^rd October: Final day of Autumn 1 term
