Enrichment Day Delivers Adventure, Creativity and Confidence at Erdington Academy
Erdington Academy’s annual Enrichment Day once again gave students a vibrant mix of experiences designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and broaden their horizons. Guided by the school’s belief that “there is dignity in hard work and effort”, the day offered every student the chance to take part in something meaningful –with no cost to families. Across Years 7 to 10, pupils threw themselves into activities that blended culture, adventure, creativity, community spirit and hands-on learning.
Year 7 kicked things off with a trip to Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, where they joined a concert led by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. For many, it was their first taste of a world-class performance space, and the experience helped build teamwork and confidence as they proudly represented the Academy.
Year 8 spent the day taking on activities inspired by the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Whether navigating orienteering challenges, getting active with dance, football or netball, volunteering, or exploring creative workshops, students enjoyed a fun, energetic day that encouraged resilience and collaboration.
Year 9 explored their interests through a Subject Passion Day, taking part in hands-on sessions across Art, Drama, Food, Business, French, Design Technology, History, Geography and Music. With guidance from specialist staff, students had the chance to discover new possibilities for their future GCSE choices. Some even visited the Belfry Hotel and Golf Resort, where they learned about real career pathways within the hospitality industry.
Meanwhile, Year 10 headed to Twycross Zoo for a day of learning outside the classroom. Their visit brought topics such as ecology, biodiversity and conservation to life, giving students the opportunity to see wildlife and ecosystems first-hand. It was an engaging and memorable way to deepen their understanding of environmental science.
