July 2025
Dear Parent/Carers,
Thank you for your support throughout this half term. As we come to the end of what has been an exciting and rewarding year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the journey Year 7 have taken since joining us in September and to reflect on our successes, and to take this opportunity to rectify any issues.
It has been a pleasure to watch our students grow in confidence, maturity, and independence over the past three terms. Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a big step, and I am incredibly proud of the way our Year 7s have adapted, embraced new challenges, and made the most of the opportunities available to them.
This year has been full of achievements – both big and small. From settling into new routines and building new friendships, to taking part in school trips, clubs, performances, and sports events, Year 7 have truly become a part of our school community. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and positive attitude has made a real impact.
Academically, students have worked hard, and it has been fantastic to see their progress across all subjects. I would like to thank all parents and carers for your continued support – your encouragement at home makes a huge difference.
I would like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you for all your support with attendance and punctuality this academic year. Collectively, Year 7 achieved 94% attendance which is above the national average.
Uniform
Uniform standards throughout the Academy are very high, well done to those students who are contributing towards this. I would, however, like to reaffirm the importance of wearing appropriate footwear to school. All students must wear black, polishable school shoes, Black Nike Airforce’s and brands similar are not permitted in school. Please also note that school skirts must be knee length and tailored, Lycra/pencil skirts are no longer permitted. If you’d like further guidance about what is suitable, please visit Academy uniform – Erdington Academy.
Single use water bottles are a banned item in school; students need to have a reusable water bottle which they can refill at break and lunch time. I’d also like to highlight that we do not permit extreme haircuts/styles at the academy and that hair colour or beads must be of a natural colour. False eyelashes and nails are also not permitted in school.
Equipment
Please can you ensure that your child brings the correct equipment to school. This includes:
School bag
Pencil case containing:
Blue/black pens (extra in case of loss or running out)
Green pen
Ruler
Scientific Calculator
Refillable water bottle
Behaviour at Break and Lunch Time
Thank you to the many students whose conduct on the school site is exemplary. I’d like parents to remind their children about the importance of following the school’s behaviour policy. This includes uniform expectations once entering the building, our one-way system and the school’s ‘no-touching policy.’
Finally, as we look ahead to Year 8, I am confident that this year group will continue to thrive. I encourage all students to take time over the summer to rest, recharge, and reflect on their achievements, while also setting some goals for the year ahead.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable summer holiday.
Mrs Owens-Kenny
Head of year 7
