July 2025
Dear Parent/Carers,
Thank you for your continued support throughout this academic year. There have been some huge successes, and we have many students who have taken part in extracurricular activities and events and have represented the school community with dedication and integrity. As we take time to reflect on our successes, I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of our shared expectations in preparation for Year 9.
This year has been full of achievements – both big and small. From establishing routines and building strong relationships with staff and peers, to taking part in school trips, clubs, performances, and sports events, Year 8 have represented our school community. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and positive attitude has made a real impact.
Academically, students have worked hard, and it has been fantastic to see their progress across all subjects. I would like to thank all parents and carers for your continued support – your encouragement at home makes a huge difference.
I would like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you for all your support with attendance and punctuality this academic year. Collectively, Year 8 achieved 92.5% attendance, which is above the national average, something we should all take pride in. When students are here consistently their outcomes are far greater.
Uniform
We continue to ask for your support with ensuring uniform and equipment are kept at our usual high standard. Well done to those students who are contributing towards this consistently. I would, however, like to reaffirm the importance of wearing appropriate footwear to school. All students must wear black, polishable shoes. Students who do not adhere to this are given support in borrowing shoes but failure to adhere to this will incur sanctions. Skirts must be tailored, and knee length please support by ensuring that this standard is met. If you’d like further guidance about what is suitable, please visit Academy uniform – Erdington Academy.
I’d also like to highlight that we do not permit extreme haircuts/styles at the academy and that hair colour or beads must be of a natural colour.
When buying new uniform for the coming academic year please ensure that you are familiar with the expected standards and if you are unsure, please do not hesitate to ask.
Equipment
Please can you ensure that your child brings the correct equipment to school. This must include:
School bag
Pencil case containing:
Blue/black pens (extra in case of loss or running out)
Green pen
Ruler
Scientific Calculator
Refillable water bottle
Behaviour
Thank you to the many students whose conduct on the school site is exemplary. I’d like parents to remind their child about the importance of following the school’s behaviour policy. This includes uniform expectations once entering the building, our one-way system and the school’s ‘no-touching policy.’ Students should have a re-usable water bottle which can be filled before school and during break or lunch.
Finally, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the parents and carers who have shown us support and kindness this year. It really is a privilege to work with you and support our students to achieve their true potential. As we prepare for the transition to Year 9, I encourage students to take time over the summer to rest, recharge, and reflect on their achievements, while also setting some goals for the year ahead.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable summer holiday.
