Parental Letter – 13/2/2026

13 February 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of this half term, I want to take a moment to thank you for your ongoing support and to share some of the ambitious work taking place across our school community. Our theme of ambition continues to guide us – encouraging every pupil to aim high, embrace new opportunities, and take pride in their learning.

2026 Year of Reading – “Go All In”

This term, we launched our 2026 Year of Reading – “Go All In” campaign through whole‑school assemblies. The aim is simple: to nurture confident, independent readers who embrace challenge and curiosity.

Throughout the year, pupils will participate in reading events, competitions and celebrations that encourage them to fully immerse themselves in reading both in school and at home.

Sparx Reader for Year 8

As part of our commitment to improving reading skills, we have introduced Sparx Reader with Year 8. This online platform supports pupils in developing comprehension, vocabulary and wider reading habits, while also encouraging greater independence. We look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on their progress.

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March

We are delighted to be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. Pupils will take part in a range of fun and creative activities designed to promote a love of reading, including challenges, shared stories and opportunities to explore new genres.

Every pupil will receive a £1.50 World Book Day voucher to put towards a book of their choice, helping them to discover something exciting to enjoy at home. We hope the day inspires even more enthusiasm for reading across all year groups.

National Literacy Trust Opportunities – March

In March, selected pupils in Year 7 and Year 9 will take part in exciting opportunities provided by the National Literacy Trust.

As part of the Power of Voice programme, they will work with professional writers during English lessons.

At the end of the month, a group of Year 9 pupils will attend a talk with author A. M. Dassu, linked to the Whole City Read campaign.

These enriching experiences aim to build confidence, creativity and ambition in our young writers.

Year 11 Macbeth Enrichment Experience

Recently, Year 11 pupils attended a performance of Macbeth as part of their enrichment day. This experience brought the set text to life and prompted pupils to think critically about interpretation and performance.

This will be especially valuable as Macbeth is the focus of their English Literature mock exam immediately after half term, and we encourage pupils to use the performance as a springboard for revision.

Lent and Ramadan

Over the half‑term break, both Lent and Ramadan will begin. We recognise this is a deeply significant period for many members of our school community. We wish all families observing these occasions a peaceful and reflective start and will continue to support pupils in school throughout the season.

Year 11 Mocks – A Reminder

Year 11 mocks will continue after half term. We encourage pupils to make good use of their revision time but also to ensure they rest, recharge and look after their wellbeing. Consistency, balance and resilience are key ingredients in achieving ambitious outcomes.

Enrichment Day at Erdington Academy was a fantastic success, with students fully immersing themselves in a wide range of activities designed to broaden their experiences beyond the classroom. Engagement was high throughout the day, and it was brilliant to see students demonstrating curiosity, teamwork, and confidence as they took on new challenges. The positive atmosphere across the school reflected how much they valued the opportunities provided, and staff feedback highlighted just how respectful, enthusiastic, and motivated our students were. Overall, it was a truly uplifting day that showcased the very best of our academy community.

Up Coming Iftar

We are delighted to be hosting our upcoming Iftar at Erdington Academy on 5th March, a special opportunity for our school community to come together in the spirit of reflection, unity, and respect. The event is completely free of charge, and we have 100 spaces available, which we expect to fill quickly. This occasion not only allows us to celebrate the significance of Iftar

during Ramadan but also strengthens our inclusive culture by welcoming students, families, and staff to share in this meaningful moment together.

A Message About Staying Safe

As pupils enjoy the break, please remind them about staying safe – whether online, out in the community or travelling to meet friends. A little caution goes a long way in ensuring everyone has a positive and enjoyable half term.

Thank you for your continued support. We are incredibly proud of the ambition shown by our pupils this term and look forward to welcoming them back after the break, refreshed and ready for the opportunities ahead.

Kind regards,

Simone Mabbett

Assistant Principal
