Enhancing Online Safety with Ripple
Dear Parents,
We are pleased to inform you about the implementation of Ripple which will be taking place later this term, a powerful online safety tool designed to support the wellbeing of our students by helping protect them from harmful online content—particularly related to self-harm or suicide.
What is Ripple?
Ripple is an innovative browser extension that monitors online searches and intervenes when a young person may be in distress. If a student searches for harmful content, Ripple pauses the search and displays a message of hope, along with links to trusted mental health support services such as Childline and Samaritans. Ripple’s focus is on proactive intervention, bridging the gap between individuals in crisis and the help they require.
Key Benefits of Ripple:
- Immediate Support: Offers real-time intervention and access to help when a student may need it most.
- Localised Intervention: The person in crisis is signposted to 24/7 helplines and mental health resources for both immediate and long-term support.
- Discreet and Respectful: Operates quietly in the background and only activates when necessary, ensuring privacy while providing essential support.
- Free and Accessible: Ripple is free to download and compatible with Windows, Mac, and Chromebook devices.
Our Commitment to Student Safety
To further strengthen our safeguarding measures, we will be installing Ripple on all school devices. This will work alongside Securus, our existing online safety screening provider, to ensure students always have access to support.
How you can support at home.
We encourage families to install Ripple on personal devices to extend this layer of protection beyond the classroom. You can download Ripple for free by visiting:

Together, we can create a safer and more supportive digital environment for our young people.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
A reminder:
- Friday 28th November: the school will be closed to students in Years 7 to 10 due to a scheduled staff training day. However, selected Year 11 students will be expected to attend school to complete essential work in preparation for their GCSE examinations. Further details will be provided to those involved.
Yours sincerely
Mr. Halstead
