Dear Parents, Carers, and Members of the Erdington Academy Community,
Re: Celebrating and Sustaining a Culture of Excellence
At Erdington Academy, Excellence is more than a value—it is the standard we set for ourselves and the aspiration that drives every member of our community. As Head of Academy, I am proud to witness daily examples of our students and staff striving to be the very best they can be, both in and out of the classroom.
Excellence at Erdington means high expectations, relentless ambition, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Whether it’s through academic achievement, personal development, or community engagement, we encourage every student to pursue their goals with determination and integrity.
We are especially pleased to be recognising and rewarding students who consistently demonstrate this value through our Ethos Card system. Staff are actively signing Ethos Cards to acknowledge students who embody excellence in their attitude, effort, and conduct. These moments of recognition are a powerful reminder that excellence is not just about outcomes, but about the choices and behaviours that lead us there.
One of the most visible ways our students show pride in their school and commitment to excellence is through their appearance. We are proud to see so many of our students wearing their uniform with pride, representing Erdington Academy with dignity and respect. This simple but powerful act reflects a shared belief in our values and a readiness to meet high expectations.
Here’s what some of our students had to say about what pride means to them:
“Wearing my uniform properly shows that I’m serious about my learning and proud to be part of Erdington.” – Year 9 Student
“When I get my Ethos Card signed, it feels like all my hard work is being noticed. That makes me want to keep pushing myself.” – Year 10 Student
“Excellence means doing your best even when no one is watching. That’s what I try to do every day.” – Year 8 Student
This term, we have seen outstanding examples of excellence in action:
Students achieving personal bests in assessments and coursework.
Staff delivering innovative and inspiring lessons.
Teams representing the Academy with pride in sports, arts, and enrichment activities.
A growing culture of mutual respect, resilience, and responsibility.
We know that excellence is not a destination but a journey. It requires effort, support, and belief—from students, staff, and families alike. As we move forward, we remain committed to providing the highest quality education and to nurturing the potential in every learner.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us uphold the value of excellence. Together, we are building a future where every student can thrive.
Yours sincerely
Ms E.Cross
Head of Academy
