Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Parental Letter – 22/5/2026

May 21st 2026

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope you are well. We would like to remind you of some important information for families with children in Year 11 and update you on the upcoming Assessment Weeks for students in Years 7–10 at Erdington Academy.

GCSE exams

Year 11 students are currently completing their GCSE examinations, and the importance of these assessments cannot be overstated. They play a crucial role in shaping each student’s educational journey, influencing future opportunities, and preparing them for the demands of further education and the wider world of work. We are pleased to see that Year 11 students are taking their exams seriously and demonstrating great resilience throughout this period. Their commitment and determination are evident, and we want to ensure they are fully supported in the weeks ahead.

It is essential that your child attends school every day and arrives punctually for every exam. While in school, teachers are continuing to prepare students through their normal timetabled lessons as well as after‑school masterclasses. The full schedule of masterclasses can be found on the school website. Students must attend in full school uniform and always follow the school’s behaviour policy. Failure to meet expectations may result in certain privileges planned for Year 11 after the exam period being withdrawn for individual students.

Year 10 mock exams

Our Year 10 students have already completed their English Language exams at the beginning of May, and we are pleased to see how seriously they are taking their assessments. Their attitude has been excellent as they move into the next phase of exams. From 1 June, students will sit their next assessments, including Geography and Maths, followed by Maths on 8 June and Biology on 9 June. This leads into Assessment Week on 17, 18 and 19 June, which will complete the Year 10 mock exam period. These assessments are vital, helping students understand the exam format, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and build confidence for Year 11. Teachers will use the results to plan support and identify any gaps in learning.

Students have already been given revision resources and should be using these daily to prepare. Students also have a wealth of resources available through GCSEPod and Sparx Maths – Home. Attendance is essential, as the information from these assessments will help determine tiers of entry and groupings for Year 11. If a student misses an exam, they will be required to complete it after school, and we appreciate your support with this.

Assessment week Years 7-9

Years 7–9 will complete their assessment week on the 17, 18 and 19 June. During this time, students will be assessed on the material they have been learning throughout the school year. These assessments are designed to measure how well students have secured the knowledge and skills outlined in the curriculum. A detailed assessment schedule, including subjects and timings, will be shared with students in advance and will also be available on the school website. We encourage you to support your child by helping them review their study materials and maintain a regular revision routine. Please refer to the home learning collaboration documents on our website for guidance Curriculum – Erdington Academy, Sparx Maths – Home and  Satchel One. Excellent attendance is essential during this period. If your child is unwell or experiencing exceptional circumstances, please contact the school as soon as possible so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Assessment results will be communicated to you when reports are completed and year 10s will have their mock results shared with them in school. We encourage you to provide your child with a supportive and nurturing environment during this period.

As an Academy, we endeavour to support our students to achieve their full potential and value the support you give. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely

S Muschette

Assistant Principal
