Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Parental Letter – 29/09/2025

29 September 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

At Erdington Academy, we firmly believe that education is most powerful when it is a shared responsibility between school and home. Parental engagement is not just a supportive gesture—it is a proven driver of student success. Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) shows that when parents are actively involved in their child’s learning, it can lead to an average of +4 months of additional academic progress per year, especially when that involvement includes support with homework and revision at home. The Department for Education echoes this, stating: “Parental involvement in the form of ‘at-home good parenting’ has a significant positive effect on children’s achievement and adjustment.” This includes simple but impactful actions such as discussing schoolwork, encouraging reading, and setting routines that prioritise learning.

In our community, we know that strong family-school partnerships can make a real difference. Your involvement, whether through helping with homework, attending school events, or staying in touch with teachers, sends a powerful message to your child: that their education matters. Together, we can build a culture of aspiration, resilience, and achievement that supports every student to reach their full potential.

We were delighted to welcome so many of you to our Parental Revision Evening on September 17th, which was exceptionally well attended. The event provided valuable insights into effective revision strategies, how to support your child at home, and how to make the most of resources like GCSE Pod and revision materials. The strong turnout reflected the commitment of our parent community and the shared determination to help students succeed. Feedback from the evening was overwhelmingly positive, and we hope this continues with other events in school including parents’ evening and another revision evening for year 10 students later this year.

As we approach our first assessment week of the academic year, beginning on Wednesday 5th November, we would like to highlight the importance of consistent homework and revision. Homework is not just a task, it’s a powerful tool that reinforces classroom learning and nurtures independent study habits. All students have access to Satchel One Satchel One and Sparx Maths Sparx Maths – Home and those in Years 10 and 11 should be regularly using GCSE Pod Access GCSEPod | Support for teachers, students and parents to deepen their understanding of recent lessons. In addition, Year 11 students should be making full use of their revision guides and workbooks to refine their exam techniques. Regular revision, especially in the lead-up to assessments, strengthens subject knowledge and boosts confidence, helping students perform at their best.

To further support our Year 11 students, we are launching a series of after-school intervention sessions. These sessions are designed to provide targeted support in key subjects and help students prepare for both their exams and Non-Exam Assessments (NEAs). Subject leaders will contact you directly if your child is invited to attend. We strongly encourage all invited students to take full advantage of these sessions, as they offer valuable opportunities to address gaps in understanding and build exam readiness. Below is the current timetable for intervention sessions:

We thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child’s education. If you have any questions or would like further guidance on how to support your child at home, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Together, we can ensure every student is equipped to succeed.

Kind regards

Mrs Muschette
