Dear Parent/Carer,
I hope you have all been enjoying the warmer weather this week- it certainly feels as though summer is on its way! As we head towards the end of term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on a core value which underpins everything we do as a school: ambition.
Ambition is what drives us to aim high, to challenge ourselves and make the most of every opportunity that life throws at us. Ambition is relevant in every area of our lives; it is knowing what our goals are and striving to meet them.
As a key component of the Erdington Way, being ambitious is something we constantly encourage in our students, and it is fantastic to see so many examples of them embracing that mindset.
Recently, a group of our Year 9 students had the opportunity to visit the Jewellery Quarter for a morning workshop, where they experienced first-hand what it takes to create and craft pieces of jewellery. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session, and the positivity was reinforced by the incredible feedback from other attendees and event organisers who praised the behaviour, maturity and attitudes of our students. Miss Jeffers and Mr Broughton were very proud indeed.
Another area of school life where students have been whole-heartedly embracing ambition is through their participation of after school activities- especially those taking part in Erdington’s Got Talent auditions. Many of our students have come forward to audition and share their incredible talents, from singing, dancing, playing classical piano, guitar soloists and much more. What makes these auditions particularly special is the support and encouragement the students give to each other, ensuring that every participant has a strong sense of belonging.
While it is essential that our students are ambitious for their own paths in life, as a team our school staff are always striving to be ambitious for those in our care. For example, the Music Department have been working creatively to upgrade their equipment through sustainable and innovative means. By building links with the music industry, they have secured several pieces of professional-grade equipment which our students will be able to utilise in their studies and will enrich and enhance their experience. Who knows, they may make an appearance in Erdington’s Got Talent sometime soon! A special thanks go to Digital Garage and Managing Director Matt Seymour for their generous donation of recording equipment.
As we move forward together, it’s important that we continue to nurture our culture of ambition- at school, at home, and in everything our students do. By encouraging them to set high goals, step outside their comfort zones and fully engage with the opportunities around them, we can help them thrive and achieve their full potential.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Yours Faithfully,
Mrs Hillier
