Dear Parent/Carer,
As I am sure most of you are aware, the Holy Month of Ramadan has started. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and is a period of prayer, self-control, charity, and goodwill to others. Part of Ramadan is fasting, which is one of the Five Pillars (fundamental religious duties) of Islam.
Muslims believe fasting has many benefits, such as:
- feeling closer to God,
- establishing a healthier lifestyle,
- developing better habits and relationships with others,
whilst coming together as a community, sharing experiences and understanding the hardship of those that are in need.
Attendance and punctuality during this period are as important as at any other time of the year. We respectfully ask you to make sure that you continue to honour your educational responsibilities: attending every day on time, attending all lessons including any detentions set or out of hours learning/master classes timetabled during Ramadan. As a community school and a school that serves a wide range of differing faiths and beliefs, we do our best to be sensitive to community needs, while also continuing to deliver a high standard of education.
We plan to mark Iftar here in school on Thursday 13th March, when we are hoping to break the fast and eat together with families and members of the community. If you would like to get involved, please do contact the school. Thank you for your support, which is always greatly appreciated. May you and your family have a Ramadan filled with peace and blessings.
