Temporary Uniform Adaptations – 22.6.2026

22nd June 2026

Dear Parents/Carers,

With the current period of warmer weather extending throughout this week, we will be making some temporary adaptations to our uniform expectations to help students remain comfortable whilst also maintaining a smart school-ready appearance.

During this time, students may wear any one of the following combinations:

  • White shirt with tie, with school uniform trousers, skirt or tailored shorts and school shoes (a decision regarding ties will be made on a day-to-day basis)
  • EA branded PE top with normal school trousers, skirt, or tailored shorts with school shoes
  • EA branded PE kit, including black shorts or skort with black trainers (policy guidance for footwear here: Uniform – Erdington Academy)

Please note that all students should continue to present themselves smartly in line with our expected standards. Hence, the following items are still not acceptable:

  • Joggers
  • Leggings
  • Elastane/tube skirts

The purpose of these adjustments is to help students stay cool in the warmer temperatures. Where possible, we encourage the use of lighter, more breathable fabrics such as cotton, as some man-made materials can retain the heat.

In school, we will also be taking a number of steps to maintain a comfortable environment. These include:

  • Closing blinds and curtains where appropriate to reduce heat
  • Opening windows and doors to encourage airflow
  • Using cooler classrooms where timetabling allows
  • Reducing physical activity, with PE lessons held indoors when necessary

We will continue to monitor the weather and keep these arrangements under review.

If you wish your child to bring a sunhat to school to protect their head in the heat whilst outside, then these should be plain. Any headgear with inappropriate logos/advertising/political comment, which could be perceived as offensive will not be permitted and will be confiscated.

Finally, your child will need to remember their refillable water bottle each day and if you wish your child to use sunscreen, then they should be reminded not to share it with others in case of allergies.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
