Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Weekly Parental letter – 16.6.2025

13 June 2025

Dear Parents/Carers

I’m certain many reading this today will agree with me that this year has flown by; it’s easy to get stuck in the day to day routines and looking to the weekend, but it’s when we pause and reflect that we’ve already had thirty-eight weeks in school. That’s approximately 170 get ups and over 970 hours of education!

That is a startling reminder of the dedication every member of our school community- students, families and staff- show each and every day. But what are we all dedicated to?

Year 11 know the answer to this – they’ve shown resilience and courage this year and are now approaching their final week of GCSEs. For them, the dedication and effort they’ve shown is preparation for the life they want to lead, laying the groundwork for the adults they will become. Year 11 know that they have shown up for their future selves and as a community we are immensely proud of them all.

For Year 11, and for all of our students, families and staff show dedication each and every day. We all play our part in supporting our children to become the best they can be and grow into wise, discerning adults. I want to thank the families of our students because without your support and commitment, we wouldn’t be able to succeed in our role in educating and caring for our students.

We are approaching Assessment Week, the week beginning 16th June, which is when Years 7-10 will have an assessment in each of their subject areas. (A small number will take place next week for some classes.) It is a good opportunity to understand what our students know, understand and can do at the end of the academic year. Additionally, it highlights where students are less confident and enables class teachers and faculties to reflect and adapt to close learning gaps. Revision will be provided from each department to help with preparation for these, and students can talk to their class teachers if they have any questions. The assessment timetable is attached.

On a final note, it is Acts of Kindness Week. All acts of kindness – whether it be listening to a friend, holding open a door, a warm smile all have an impact on our health and wellbeing. Kindness doesn’t have to display itself in huge gestures, but often it’s the little things that make a difference. Please encourage your children to think about their own acts of kindness and how they show others that they care.

Yours sincerely

Mrs Hillier
