Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Year 7 letter 25.2.2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you and your families had a restful break. It has been good to welcome Year 7 back into school, and students have begun settling into the new term at a steady pace. We are gradually seeing pupils returning to routines and engaging positively with their learning.

As we begin this new term, I would like to share some key reminders and priorities that will help ensure every student has a happy, successful, and settled start.

Uniform Expectations

To help all students feel prepared and confident each day, please ensure your child comes to school in full uniform. Our required items are:

  • A school blazer
  • A school tie
  • Trousers or skirt (skirts must be knee‑length and follow school policy)
  • A school‑appropriate bag
  • School shoes (Nike Air Force, trainers, Vans, and Converse are not permitted).
  • Jewellery: One small stud earring in each ear and one small nose stud are allowed. No additional piercings.
  • Headwear: Only permitted for religious reasons and must be black.
  • Nails & Lashes: No acrylic or fake nails and no false eyelashes.

Attendance Reminders

To help us support your child’s learning and maintain good routines, please keep the following in mind:

  • Please report any absence before 8:30am on the morning your child is away.
  • Let us know the reason for the absence as early as possible so we can update our records.
  • Where possible, arrange medical appointments outside of school hours to avoid gaps in learning.
  • If students arrive late, they will receive a 25‑minute detention and a negative signature on their ethos card. After 9:00am, this increases to a 50‑minute detention.

Behaviour

Year 7 students have made a strong start overall, and many continue to show maturity, kindness, and a willingness to meet our expectations. As we move through the term, we want to keep those high standards in place for all students.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing the following expectations at home:

  • Showing respectful behaviour towards staff and peers
  • Following instructions first time
  • Moving calmly around corridors and social spaces
  • Taking responsibility for their choices

By working together, we can ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

Mobile Phones

To help keep lessons calm and focused, our mobile phone policy remains in place:

  • Mobile phones must not be seen, heard, or used at any point during the school day
  • Phones should remain switched off and kept in bags
  • Any phone used without permission will be confiscated in line with school policy and given to reception for collection at the end of the school day.

We ask for your continued support in reminding your child to follow these expectations. Keeping phones out of sight helps reduce distractions and supports positive behaviour throughout the day.

 Form Tutors and Support

Form tutors continue to be the first point of contact for families. They play an important role in supporting students’ wellbeing, organisation, and day‑to‑day queries. If you have any concerns, please do reach out so we can work together to support your child.
