The Erdington Way

23 September 2024

Dear Parents / Carers

It has been a pleasure seeing students settle into the Autumn term so well over the past three weeks.  Students have been arriving to the Academy looking smart, wearing their uniform with pride and making the most of the opportunities offered at Erdington Academy both inside and outside of the classroom.

I wanted to write to you this week to discuss something that makes Erdington Academy unique. Something we have coined “The Erdington Way.”  You will hear this phrase mentioned a lot over the course of the academic year and beyond and I wanted to write to explain this a little further.

The Erdington Way starts as soon as students step onto our site, we have a blue line at both the gates entering the Academy site to signify where our expectations start.  But what do we mean by The Erdington Way?  Put simply, the Erdington Way is a set of standards, expectations and behaviours that govern how all members of the academy community do things.  The Erdington Way covers all aspects of academy life, from the academic, which are designed to help engagement in learning, to procedural, which are designed to help students manage materials and how they will move around the Academy to cultural which are designed to help students express shared values, norms and aspirations.

But why is The Erdington Way important?  We believe that success comes when we feel connected, when we feel we truly belong – being part of something important and valuable, often something that feels larger than ourselves.  The Erdington Way therefore is a mechanism to build and share what it truly means to be part of the Erdington Academy community. A mechanism to ensure that all students leave with their lives enriched and futures transformed.

Over the course of the academic year, we will write to explain different aspects of the Erdington Way and encourage you to speak to your child about life at the Academy too.

Best wishes

Ms Cross

Head of Academy
