Uniform Issue letter

Dear Parents/Carers,

RE: Wearing school trousers appropriately

I am writing to seek your support with an issue that has become increasingly noticeable in school.

We have observed a growing number of boys adopting a fashion of wearing their trousers significantly below the waist, often around the tops of their thighs. This results in underwear or undershorts being clearly visible during the school day.

This style of dress is not appropriate within a school environment. It places members of staff—particularly female colleagues—in an uncomfortable position, as they are regularly exposed to students’ undergarments and are required to repeatedly remind multiple students throughout the day to pull their trousers up. This is not a situation we consider acceptable or respectful within our school community. These expectations mirror those found in business and other formal settings, and we believe it is important to prepare our students accordingly.

We ask that all students wear their uniform correctly and smartly at all times, with trousers secured at the waist as intended. While we recognise that fashion trends may influence personal style, such choices are not suitable for school and should be reserved for outside of school hours.

As part of our commitment to maintaining high standards, from this week we will begin issuing uniform sanctions to any student who does not wear their trousers appropriately or who refuses to adjust them when asked.

We would be very grateful for your support in reinforcing this expectation at home, ensuring that your child leaves for school dressed in a way that meets our uniform standards.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and support.
