Three Erdington Academy students have secured highly sought‑after work experience placements with leading engineering firm IMI Truflo Marine, a major name in naval engineering.
Eight Year 10 students applied for the opportunity, with eight advancing to formal interviews with the company. IMI Truflo Marine, based in Birmingham, designs and manufactures critical systems for ships and submarines, making these placements an exceptional opportunity for young people interested in engineering and advanced manufacturing.
This success marks another milestone in the Academy’s growing partnership with the company. Earlier this year, staff and students welcomed back a former Erdington Academy pupil – now an apprentice at Truflo Marine – who delivered a whole‑school assembly alongside his new colleagues.
Careers Lead Miss Millward said: “This partnership is delivering tangible results for our students. Seeing a former pupil return as an apprentice was a proud moment for the school, and it’s fantastic to see more of our young people now securing opportunities with the company.”
IMI Truflo Marine’s Rebecca Corbishley, who led the interviews, praised the candidates’ professionalism, preparation and confidence. She highlighted how thoroughly students had researched the company and how enthusiastically they engaged with the process.
Careers Advisor Mr Hassnain added: “All students showed how highly skilled and adaptable they are. I am incredibly proud of everyone who put themselves forward for what can be a challenging and intense experience. A special congratulations to those selected for the placements.
“Erdington Academy looks forward to continuing its partnership with IMI Truflo Marine and creating even more opportunities that enrich lives and transform futures.”
The three Year 10 students will begin their work experience in the Summer Term.
