Parental Letter – 8.5.2026

8 May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope this letter finds you well.

One of the questions I am most often asked as Head of Erdington Academy is, “How can I best support my child at school?” It is a wonderful question, and one that reflects the shared ambition we all have—to ensure every young person thrives, both academically and personally.

I would like to take a moment to share a few simple but powerful ways in which you can support your child’s success.

First and foremost, encouraging your child to take part in the full life of the school makes a significant difference. Whether this is through clubs, trips, enrichment activities or leadership opportunities, these experiences help students to build confidence, resilience and important life skills that will stay with them long after they leave us.

Alongside this, supporting your child to build strong habits and positive routines is key. At Erdington Academy, we talk about following “The Erdington Way”—showing pride, respect and determination each and every day. By encouraging your child to be organised, to try their best, and to reflect on how they can improve, you are helping them to become the very best version of themselves. These habits, built over time, are the foundation for both academic success and personal growth.

Secondly, taking an interest in what your child is learning can have a real impact. Talking with them about their lessons, asking questions, and celebrating their successes helps to reinforce the value of education. To support you with this, we have developed our Home Learning Collaboration documents, which are available on our website. These provide helpful guidance about what your child is learning in each subject and how you can support them at home.

A consistent approach to homework and independent study is also key. At Erdington Academy:

  • Maths and English homework are set via SPARX
  • All other subjects use satchel one
  • Students in Key Stage 4 also have access to GCSEPod, which is an excellent resource to support revision and deepen their understanding

Ensuring that your child is completing their homework regularly and engaging with these platforms will help them to build strong study habits and reinforce their learning.

We also strongly encourage you to attend parents’ evenings and school events. These are valuable opportunities to meet your child’s teachers, understand their progress, and work together to support them. A visible and positive partnership between school and home makes a significant difference to student outcomes—we are united in wanting the very best for every child.

Finally, I cannot stress enough the importance of excellent attendance. Every day in school matters. Good attendance not only supports academic progress but also helps students to build routine, confidence and a strong sense of belonging. When students attend regularly, they are far more likely to achieve well and fully benefit from everything the Academy has to offer.

At Erdington Academy, our aim is clear: “Enriching lives, transforming futures.” This is only possible when we work together—school and home—to support our young people to develop strong habits, embrace opportunity, and strive for excellence in all that they do.

We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for the ongoing support of our families. Together, we can ensure every student maximises their time with us and leaves ready to succeed in the next stage of their journey.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

With warmest regards,

Elizabeth Cross
