Erdington Academy celebrates national attendance awards for second consecutive year

Erdington Academy has been recognised with two FFT National Attendance Awards, placing the school among the top 25% of similar secondary schools in England for attendance.

The academy received awards for both the 2025/26 academic year and the Summer Term 2026, marking the second consecutive year it has received national attendance recognition.

Presented by FFT, a nationally respected education data organisation, the awards recognise schools that achieve high levels of attendance while serving communities facing similar challenges.

Executive Principal of Erdington Academy, Mr Mallett, said: “We know strong attendance is a key indicator of future success. This award reflects our commitment to working closely with students and families to ensure young people are in school and able to achieve their best.”

Inside school, Erdington has strengthened its culture of attendance through a banded monitoring system, weekly 100% attendance awards, and termly badges recognising students who maintain full attendance.

Last year Erdington Academy cut the number of students classed as persistently absent by more than a third, partly by introducing a schedule of daily check-ins. On-site mentors, from MW Impact and weekly meetings between attendance, pastoral, SEND and safeguarding teams also ensure that every student’s needs are understood and supported.

The academy also works with local employers through Making Learning Work, offering alternative provision for students who benefit from a blended timetable and practical skill‑building.

The awards recognise the academy’s continued efforts to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel motivated to attend school and make the most of every opportunity available to them.

Mr Mallett added: “These awards are a credit to our students, families and staff. Excellent attendance is a team effort, and we are proud of the commitment shown by our whole school community and our partners.”

As Erdington Academy celebrates another year of national recognition, leaders remain focused on maintaining high standards and continuing to support students to attend regularly, achieve well and fulfil their potential.
