Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Parental Letter – 26.6.2023

26th June 2023

Dear Parents and Carers

At Erdington Academy we believe in the importance of taking pride in our appearance and in representing ourselves and the Academy in a positive manner at all times; including on the way to and from the Academy.  We constantly review our systems and processes.  I wish to draw your attention to some changes from September 2023.

 Out of Lesson Passes

From September, if you wish your child to start later/leave early you must email our attendance officer  n.grady@erdington.fmat.co.uk, each request will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Each minute makes a huge difference to your child’s education, so we want to ensure they are here full time.  When we make any changes to a student’s timetable/day we need to inform the council and they are always under review with a maximum time of two weeks (unless extenuating reasons).

Medical Passes (including toilet passes)

We continue to review these throughout an academic year.  If you strongly feel your child needs a pass due to their medical condition, can you email n.ali@erdington.fmat.co.uk with medical evidence.  Failure to produce this will mean your child’s pass is revoked in September.

Uniform

We believe that wearing the correct uniform sets the standards for learning, conveys the positive image that the Academy warrants in the local community and also ensures that staff are able to focus their attention on students’ learning.  In the same way many employers expect their staff to wear a uniform, we expect our students to wear the Erdington Academy uniform correctly each and every day.

Our complete list of uniform can be accessed through this below:

 Student bags

We are making one change to the policy for September, which is that all students must carry a bag that has the ability to store an A4 folder.  As we continue to drive our students’ academic performance, we feel it is crucial students have the ability to take homework/coursework home so they can continue their studies.

Strike days – Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July

We will be closing the Academy on both Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July due to industrial strike action, with the exception of vulnerable/key groups. We will notify you by text message, if your child is expected in the Academy on both days.  Work will be available for students to complete through the school website on both days.

Eid

We wish everyone a Happy Eid this week, which represents a special time for our communities.  Please be reminded that you are allowed one day off from school for religious observance.  If you could let us know which day you will be celebrating by completing the form below, that would be much appreciated.
