Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Ramadan 2024

Dear Parent / Carer

RE: Ramadan

It will soon be the start of Ramadan and we are aware this is an extremely important time for many of our staff, students, and families.

This year Ramadan is predicted to start on or around 10th/11th March and will conclude around the 9th of April (depending on the new moon) with Eid-ul-Fitr falling on the 9th/10th April.

To support those students who wish to conduct the daytime prayer of Zuh’r, during the holy month, the dance studio will be available and staffed for both lunch times.  In addition, we will also make the rear canteen known to the students as “the hot deli” a quite area where students can sit quietly and reflect.

While many of our students will be fasting, we do strongly encourage students who are in receipt of free school meals to still collect their meal and take them home at the end of the day.  To make this process easier and to let the canteen know how many meals to make up, please complete the attached form by Thursday 7th March by 4:00 pm.

We are aware that students may have reduced energy levels and feel tired during the holy month, but we also know how important it is for all students participating in Ramadan to uphold their education and try and make the most of school life.  We will be asking friends, students, and staff to watch out for each other and be sympathetic.  This will particularly be the case for students who are taking part in PE and music, which will carry on as usual with some modifications.  We will be advised and guided by the Local Authority guidance to support our staff, students, and families.

We want Ramadan to be as inclusive experience for all our students at Erdington academy, so will be providing information about Ramadan to all our students and encouraging each other to share their experiences of fasting.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish Ramadan Mubarak to all our community from all the staff at Erdington Academy.

Yours sincerely

Ms E Cross
