Summer Progress Assessments

16 June 2023

Dear Parent / Carer

RE: Summer Progress Assessments

I am writing to inform you that the Summer Progress Assessment window will commence for all students’ years 7 -10 from Monday 19th June and will run until Thursday 6th July. During this assessment window your child will complete a series of end of year assessments.

These assessments are very important as they will be used to provide information on the progress your child has made over this academic year and to plan to support your child’s continued development into the new academic year 2023/24.  We will use this information to inform:

  • Future curriculum planning;
  • Adjustments to learning, teaching, assessment and planning;
  • Support to close any identified gaps and identify any additional interventions that may be needed to ensure your child’s potential is realised;
  • Where your child is in relation to their age-related expectations.

For students in years 7 – 9 the assessments they complete will be standardised against national benchmarks using GL Assessments (http://www.gl-assessment.co.uk/) which include the following:

  • Maths Progress Test-
  • English Progress Tests
  • New Group Reading Tests

For students in year 10, they will commence their first formal mock examination assessments between the Monday 19th June and Friday 30th June.  These assessments will be in all subjects and will replicate the conditions set out by the Joint Council of Qualifications.

To ensure your child is developing good habits for learning, we recommend that your child prepare for this test by revising topics highlighted by their teachers. Revision materials and topics are available on the curriculum pages of the website, in particular the Home Learning Collaboration Documents for KS3 and the Subject syllabus for KS4 will be useful starting points.

For all year groups, assessments will be carried out following formal examination conditions to ensure your child is prepared for the rigour and formalities of future public examinations.

Students who are absent from these assessments will be required to complete them upon their return, which may need to be outside of the usual school hours.

If you have any further questions with regards to the forthcoming assessment weeks, please do not hesitate to contact the academy.

Thank you for your continued support on your child’s education.

Yours faithfully

Ms Cross

Vice Principal
