In this newsletter for Spring 2, we will reflect on what has been achieved at the beginning of 2022 and look forward to the next half term, which is packed with events and important milestones in your child’s learning journey at Erdington Academy.
Representing Erdington Academy in the Local Community
Last half term we were proud to be represented at a local Holocaust Memorial Day event in Erdington where student Amelie Dixon De-Courcy in Year 8 represented Erdington Academy reading aloud her poem ‘One Day’ inspiring many to look forward to a better and fairer society.

Enrichment Activity – English Department Theatre Visit
Y11 went to see Animal Farm at the Birmingham Rep, to support with their studying of the novel for part of their Literature Course. They absolutely loved the experience, which for some was the first time they’d been to the theatre, and have repeatedly asked if we can go to the theatre again! We also got some lovely feedback from members of the public about how enthusiastic and polite the Y11s were. Overall a fantastic experience.
Year 11 Revision Evening – February
Our students in year 11 are about to sit their second round of mock exams. Parents, carers and students were invited to a revision evening where subject leads gave advice and handy tips on ‘what and how’ to revise for their exams. Students will soon be meeting final deadlines for coursework and final exams. Our Head of Year 11, Miss. Perry and Senior Link, Mrs. Mabbett are working hard to support students achieve their full potential and we are running a full range of after school interventions are running across the subjects. We wish our students the best of luck in their exams.

Leading Parent Partnership Award Focus Group Meeting, January
It was good to see new faces at the LPPA meeting in January. We discussed recent developments and opportunities to engage parents and the community. There is now a Parent Information Board in the reception area and a Parent Feedback Box. We will soon also have a leaflet stand, where you can pick up resources. We will shortly be publishing ‘Our Promise to You’ outlining how we expect parents, carers and staff to treat one another when making contact.
Based on feedback at the meeting, we will be having drop in sessions at school to help parents and carers with accessing Show My Homework, in order for you to support and monitor your child’s home learning, dates to follow. We also investigated the school website, I would like to remind you of where you can access parent information:
Visit Erdington Academy website, select Academy Life from the icon bar, here you will find lots of links to useful pages including how to use Show my Homework and SEND resources.

Introduction of ETHOS Cards
Students have received the ethos/behaviour cards well. Some students have already been given green cards through filling their achievement points and these students will gain additional rewards e.g queue jump passes.
Can I ask that parents check their cards and speak to students to see how many positives, negatives, and time out of lessons students have had.

In March, our Year 9 Students will be selecting their option choices for Key Stage 4. We invite parents, carers and students to an Information Evening on Thursday 3rd March where you will be able to meet subject leads to find out more about the courses on offer and think about your career pathways.
