Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Parental Letter – 18th September 2023

18 September 2023

Dear Parents/Carers

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as your child’s new Head of Year.  I am looking forward to welcoming students into the new academic year 2023/24 and I am keen to work closely with you. This is a very exciting time for our students as they prepare for the future. We are lucky to have a great team of staff to support us on this journey.

This Year we have additional support from Mrs Rashid Associate Assistant Principle who comes with a wealth of experience. Mr McKenzie also joins our team as a behaviour mentor and supporting me in addressing the day to day needs of the students.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of the role of the tutor and their relationship with your child. Invariably, the tutor is often the first adult your child may see every day at school.  I think it is important to foster that relationship, improving links between the school and home. Whilst I am always contactable, I would like to remind you of the importance of the form tutor as a first point of contact with most queries. I will be asking tutors to contact home if there are issues with attendance and behaviour, but also to celebrate the positives with yourselves. Please find the email addresses below of the Year 11 tutors for your

Reference.

I would like to inform you of some of the opportunities this year:

As well as leavers hoodies, leavers lunch and a reward trip; we have a provisional date booked in for the Year 11 Prom on Tuesday 2nd July 2024.  We do need to mention that there are certain criteria that will need to be met in order for pupils to qualify for this. The criteria are below:

  • No more than 30 lates
  • No suspensions
  • Attendance must be above 90%
  • Any other continuous misconduct

Any of the above may result in your child being unable to access one of the end of year rewards available for them.

Please be reminded of the uniform standards this year, which can be found on the school website. Can I ask that you support the Academy in ensuring your child is in correct uniform daily.

100% attendance is critical in Year 11 to ensure your child is accessing all their lessons in preparation for their GCSE’s.  This also includes being on time every day to make the most of their final year at Erdington Academy.

I really look forward to working closely with you and getting to know your child to ensure their success this academic year. Should you need to contact me or Mrs Rashid please find our email addresses below:
