Parental letter – Year 10 – 5/10/2023

18 September 2023

Dear Parent/Carer of Year 10,

It is my pleasure to introduce myself as your child’s new Head of Year. I am delighted to have started this role and am looking forward to supporting your child as they begin their GCSE journey.

This year we have additional support from Mrs Rashid Associate Assistant Principle who comes with a wealth of experience. Miss Ali also joins our team as a behaviour mentor and supporting me in addressing the day to day needs of the students.

Year 10 is an important year as your child begins their GCSE courses. These two years will shape their future and set them on the path to higher education and successful careers. One of my roles will be to support them, along with subject teachers, pastoral staff and yourselves, in this journey. Ensuring that they are supported so that they can fully embrace and engage with the courses they are studying.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you and your child about what you can expect from me. Your child can expect me to be approachable, I will listen without judgement and ensure that they feel comfortable when approaching me for support. I am fair and will treat all students equally, whether that is rewarding pupils or sanctioning when necessary.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of the role of the form tutor and their relationship with your child. Invariably, the tutor is often the first adult your child may see each day at school and I think it is important to foster that relationship, improving links between the school and home.

Whilst I am always contactable, I would like to remind you of the importance of the form tutor as a first point of contact with most queries. I will be asking tutors to contact home if there are issues with attendance and behaviour, but also to celebrate the positives with yourselves. Please find the email addresses below of the Year 10 tutors for your reference.

100% attendance is critical in Year 10 to ensure your child is accessing all their lessons at Key Stage 4.  This also includes being on time every day to make the most of their final year at Erdington Academy.
